Gender Equality or Equity

The scarcity of gender data is a significant obstacle in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This challenge is particularly acute in Africa, where the lack of access to crucial gender inequality data hinders policymakers from making informed decisions and monitoring progress effectively.

As a result, most African nations are unlikely to meet the SDGs by 2030.The implications are vast. The absence of gender data not only stalls progress on gender equality but also inhibits sustainable development as a whole. Current funding levels are inadequate, and the shortage of trained human resources to collect and analyze this data exacerbates the issue. In the context of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), the need for comprehensive and accurate gender data is critical. Gender data is essential for companies and organizations to truly understand and address gender roles, relations, and inequalities within their operations and communities. It’s time for a concerted effort to invest in gender data collection and training. Only then can we ensure that policies and strategies are effectively tailored to foster equality and sustainable development.
